Thanks for giving it the ol' college try, though. Do you think there might be a bit of stigma surrounding being "something you got for nothing off the Intarweb"?

Would that the problem were so simple. I've already got them playing (and enjoying) Wushu and The Pool, which are both free games, so I don't think there was any stigma there. Further, when I made the pitch I used my copy of the ol' TSR Conan boxed set, so they didn't even see it as a download. I think the problem is that they just didn't want to go through the effort of learning a new rule system of even moderate scope and crunch. They're already heavily infested in Mutants& Masterminds for that sort of gaming; they know those rules inside and out. Wushu and The Pool are extremely light, basically one-page systems, which made learning them nearly effortless (though I think adjusting attitudes in play took longer than they realized), whereas I think they feared Conan/ZeFRS would have involved a typical adjustment session or two flailing in the dark.
