I was wondering if there has been any ideas for priest discussed.
I am not a big fan of the distinction between divine and arcane magic in most games. ( that is another discussion)
However, I was thinking about priest being magic users with a narrower focus and maybe a lesser weakness.( restriction)
I use will the example of a priest of a god of healing for the rest of this post. Other priests can be worked out by the GM and Players.
An example would be as follows: a priest of the god of healing can only ever have spells that heal. No other discipline can be learned.
The spell simply augments a skill two column shifts for an easier role.
So the god simply works through you to increase the skill in which you have studied under the god. Perhaps they get a bonus to healed damage equal to there talent divided by ten.
So a healing priest with 23 talent points in healing can heal an extra 2 points.
So our priest of healing must be a student of medicine to work a healing spell. So do the gods really exist or is it just the persons faith that gives him a boost? That can be up to the GM.
Maybe another befit of being a priest of the healing god must people will not kill you as they know your vow to save lives. Even if you are captured by foes.
As far as the restriction for the( healing priest) several ideas are :
1) they are bound to use only blunt weapons on humans. The reason being that a person can more readily survive a broken arm from a heavy staff blow than a spear thrust through the vitals.
2) they must always act last in a combat round.
3) can only fight defensive for a number of rounds before one may attack
