Introduction and House Rules
OK, so I'm finally getting off my lazy butt to give this game a whirl, and being inspired by Solo Gaming Awareness Month, I'm doing it solo with the Mythic Game Master Emulator (GME).
House rules I came up with: TWO-WEAPON FIGHTING: When dual wielding, use the smaller of the weapon's talent or the two-weapon fighting talent (or general prowess if higher). AIMING: Melee and unarmed combat will use the same aiming rules as misile combat (hit location table or -3 to target specific point). COLUMN: Use thin lines as column seperators instead of dark lines. UNKNOWN LUCK: Every time a wish to spend a luck point I roll a d10, if the result is equal to or less than the total luck spent up to that point then I have run out of luck and have none to spend. TALENTS THAT BOOST OTHER TALENTS: Talents that give bonuses to other talents (like animal sense) must first get a success on the result chart (green or higher) before that bonus can be conferred. This is a free/instant use of that talent.
Next post: my character, Falix

Character
Falix Falix was born to unknown lineage. She was taken in by the guardian of the North Woods when she was just a babe. Her father, Kral (but only known to most others as the Guardian of the Wood), only told her that he found her crying among her dead parents. Falix has grown to suspect that the story is partially false because small details have changed over the years. Recently the Empire of the Cult (of Abhoth) has made more and more aggressive encroaches into the North Wood. It was during one of these encroaches that Karl was felled. Weather Falix was ready or not, she is now the Guardian of the Wood. Her first goal is to avenge the death of her father. Falix is thin but toned with raven black hair.

PC List: Falix
NPC List: Arsonist Brigands Prophet of the Unclean (leader of the Empire of the Cult) Army of the Empire People of the North Wood
Threads: Avenge death of father by slaughtering all but one of the Arsonist brugands
Chaos: 5
Scene 1: Outside the arsonists' camp Scene Setup Roll: 4 ~ Interupted Scene Random Event: PC Positve, Praise Dreams
Scene 1: I am dreaming...
I find myself in a misty place. I am following a bear. I don't know where I'm going, but I trust the bear. After a short while a figure comes into view in the swirling mist ahead. I soon realize it is my father. The bear is gone now, but I continue on. As I approach, I see he is smiling. “Father! Why are you here?” “I have come to wish you farewell my child.” “What do you mean?” “I have been slain.” I don't want to believe, but I know it is true. “Who has done this? And why was I not there to help you?” “I didn't bring you because I knew it was my time, Falix. Please, don't by sad for me. I have joined with the great wood now, my spirit is here, in the forest. I will never be farther away from you than the closest tree trunk.” “But I'm not ready!” “You are. You are no longer a cub; you are now a bear. The forest and I both have faith in you.” “Tell me. Who did this. By my right hand I will see them dead.” “They were ten men of the Cult. Now there are only three left. I managed to stymie their plans to burn the forest down, but they still have the resources to do it. They are just another sign of the Prophet's undaunting drive to destroy this forest. We clashed near Stream-Crosses-Great-Rock-At-Dead-Oak; you will find my body there I think.” “Father, I will miss you.” “You have but to look under a leaf or listen to the wind in the tress and you will find me.” “Good bye, Guardian. I relieve you of your charge. Join the forest with peace of mind and soul,” I repeated the solemn words. “There is one more thing to tell you, Falix. Your parents were murdered by a young noble serving in Abhoth's legions. He escaped my axe, but not without leaving a finger with his house symbol on it. I did not tell you of this earlier, because I feared your spirited nature would make you leave the wood before your time. You will find the ring in my cloak. So long, Guardian of the Wood.” With that he faded and I slowly woke; tears coming down my cheeks.
End scene. Add “Unknown noble who murdered my parents” to NPC list. Chaos stays at 5, and add “Find noble who murdered my parents” to Threads list.

PC List: Falix
NPC List: Arsonist Brigands Prophet of the Unclean (leader of the Empire of the Cult) Army of the Empire People of the North Wood Unknown noble who murdered my parents.
Threads: Avenge death of father by slaughtering all but one of the Arsonist brugands Find noble who murdered my parents.
Chaos: 5
Scene 2: Search for the body Scene setup roll: 10, no change
I immediately get up; the fury slowly replacing my sadness. After putting on my things, I make for Stream-Crosses-Great-Rock-At-Dead-Oak.
Is it night time? AST, 55 ~ Yes Do I encounter anyone on the way? VU, 96 ~ Hell No!
Something is wrong. I see no people on my way to find father's body, but what's more unsettling is that I don't encounter any animals either. It is dead quiet as I make my way through the woods.
Use talent Animal Sense to sense the presence of Animal Aversion: 87, White = fail Use talent Animal Sense to get a bonus to Danger Sense: 52, Green = success Use talent Danger Sense to detect a hidden or immediate threat: 16, Orange = success Is there a hidden and/or immediate threat? 50/50, 34 ~ Yes Is the threat the three remaining briggands? HtB, 61 ~ Yes
I stop short and squat. I see them. Three heads roughly spaced out equally in my front 120 degree arc. I have just a moment to prepare as two of them rush at me.
Suprise Checks: Me ~ 0, Brigands ~ 2 Using a luck point to reroll my suprise check. Luck used so far is 0. New Suprise Check: 0 again. Spending a luck point. Luck used: 1. Luck roll is a 6; I still have luck left. New Suprise Check: 4!! I get two free actions before we have regular combat. My first free action is spent unsheathing my axe. Are the brigands' weapons already drawn? VL, 59 ~ Yes My second action is to attack the closest briggand.
I surprise them with my ferocity as I am able to grab my axe and swing it's blood stained blade at the one to my left before the other two can get to me.
Combat roll on 1 (axe 5 – move 4): 32, Yellow = 3 damage (2 + 1 for axe). Hit Location: 14, right leg Is the briggand wearing leg armor? 50/50, 81 ~ No B1 is down to 1 point.
My swing islow, delivering a vicious slice to the villian's unprotected leg. He screams in pain. Now they're upon me.
Are the briggand's wearing armor at all? L, Yes
I see that they are all clad in similar leather jacks.
Declarations: I'm going to finish off B1; the three briggands will attack me. Initiative: Me ~ 9 (roll of 6 + move of 5 – 2 for axe and armor); them ~ 9 (5 roll + 4 move). I go first because I'm cool like that. Attack roll on 1: 51, green = 2 damage (1 + 1 axe) Hit location: 49, chest; armor blocks 1 damage, but not enough...
I bury my blade right into the bastard's sternum. I have just enough time to pull it out before I have to dodge the other two's attacks.
B2 Combat roll on 0 (4 weapon – 4 of my move): 80, white = miss B3 Combat roll on 0: 99, fumble! Roll Prowess to hold onto weapon: 23, yellow = success
I duck under the first attack and slide to the left as the second briggand's attack goes wild. I raise my axe ready to give it more blood.
Round 2 Declare: I'll attack B2; they're both attacking me Initiative: Me ~ 6, B2 ~ 8, B3 ~ 9 (yikes) B3 Attack: 04, RED! I'm going to spend a luck point to reduce that to orange. Luck used: 2. Luck roll: 7, I still have luck left. Hit location: 94, head I take 3 points of damage; I'm down to Damage 2. B2 Attack: Yellow, 2 damage Hit location: 97, head I'm going to spend another luck point to reduce damage. Luck used: 3. Luck roll: 5, still lucky. I take 1 point of damage; I'm down to Damage 1. My attack: 33, Yellow ~ 3 damage Hit location: 34, gut; 1 point of damage is blocked, and B2 is down to 2 damage.
A flury of blows are exchanged. Blood is pouring into my eyes, but I'm sure I sliced one of the bastards in the belly. “I will kill you for what you did,” I scream.
Round 3 declarations: I'm attacking B2, and they're attacking me. Initiative: Me ~ 8, B2 ~ 7, B3 ~ 14 B3 Attack: 05, RED! Spending luck to reduce it to yellow. Luck used: 4. Luck roll: 5; I'm still with luck. Hit location: 13, Right leg; my legs are unprotected. That blow delivers 3 damage; I'm down to -2. Damage roll at -2 to stay alive and conscince: 84, white = death. I'm spending a luck point to reroll that. Luck used: 6. Luck roll: 10. I'm still lucky. Damage roll, again: 44, green. I'm alive but unconscience.
The defiler's blow cuts a horrible line through my right calf, sending me to the ground with a spin. I go down and the world goes out...
Do the briggand's kill me? 50/50, 73 ~ No. Do the briggands take me a way? 50/50, 09 ~ Hell yes! I'm going to spend a Luck point to say that my cloak hides my crumpled body in the underbrush and dark. Luck used so far: 7. Luck roll: 8!! I've still got it. Going to go for another Luck point. Luck used: 8. Luck roll: 7. No good; I don't have any more luck. Luck resolution roll on 1: 68, white = fail.
End Scene: Add “Escape from briggands” to Threads list. Increase Chaos to 6; I had no control on that last scene, spending Luck pionts like crazy.
Well, that was close. Falix is down, but not out. Until next time...
And thank you for reading this far. Any input on advice for playing or ruling the game is welcome.

Those two scenes took several hours to get through. I'm going to call that an 'evening' of play.
Fame: none; I haven't accomplished anything yet.
Talent Points: 1 for showing up 1 for using animal reflexes 1 for using animal sense 1 for using danger sense 2 for using axe fighting
6 total earned, but I can't use them until I get to some place safe and heal up, natch.
Luck: I suppose. I'll use d4 for luck checks instead of d10 during next scene.

Hi Mike
Thanks for this report. Your idea for generating a number of luck points that's unknown even to you is really nice. I think I may steal that for the next time my group plays.
Fumbles ordinarily only happen to characters who have the accident prone disadvantage. Did you decide Brigand 3 was accident prone, or that everybody fumbled on a 99-00?
I've never used the GM emulator; I think I'll have to check it out now, to come up with ideas in a hurry if nothing else!

Thanks for reading and posting, mark!
re: fumbles I figured everybody fumbles, but people with accident prone have no chance to save against it (if I had fumbled I would get no chance to hold on to my weapon for example).
re: GME It's pretty cool. Its basically a grid with odds on the left and 'chaos' along the bottom used to answer yes/no questions. The odds are things like 'Has to Be' or 'Very Unlikely'. As 'Chaos' increases everything increases in chance; so, even something that's 'Impossible' has a reasonable chance of being true when 'chaos' is cranked all the way up. There's more to it than that as well, an 'ink blot' system for answering complicated questions and a way to generate random events that send the story in directions never thought of (happens on rolls of doubles where the number rolled is equal to or less than the current chaos, which didn't happen in the game so far).
more adventure to come soon

Man, I just had a really fun time reading your adventures here. Thanks for posting them! Got me to break out my Mythic GME and give it a go myself, I think, Hehe. I'll have to post what I come up with too, that sounds like fun. For the game, I made a munchkiny (I'm ashamed to say) Cimmerian barbarian type guy. I'll post it elsewhere, as I'm really not trying to thread-jack. Introduction and House RulesHouse rules I came up with: TWO-WEAPON FIGHTING: When dual wielding, use the smaller of the weapon's talent or the two-weapon fighting talent (or general prowess if higher). Also, I have to say, I love your houserules! I love them so much I am really considering adding them to my version of ZeFRS via the RTF doc available here as core rule overwrites. Honestly I probably won't go with the luck thing tho, as I think I'll need to test that more fully. It seems a wonderful rule to have initially, but I wonder what kind of havoc it could create for much more experienced and powerful characters. By that I mean, I think that rule may actually lose it's necessity after awhile. Just my thoughts. But, thank you very much for these house rules! Tried them out, and love them. Please tell us more about Falix! Very fun read Edit: Scratch what I said about the luck thing... I just read that in the "Thrills" section of "Improvement and Ultimate Goals", and I now think that your idea with the D10 really fits a game run with GME. Great idea! Man, I should have considered that before my own PC got to where he is right now, hehe. Another thing... I just re-read your posting here, Is Falix now out of sight of the brigands, and in relative safety so she can heal? The way the luck roll was worded, I wondered if her concealment was after they "took her away", but It seems it is before they had a chance too. Hope she can rest up and get some payback! Just as an idea, if your father is now one with the woodlands, perhaps he can persuade/instruct some forest creatures (wolf, bear, etc) to come to your final aid? Just a thought. Love how you're ruling this game, by the way... Your post taught me alot about how I might want to run this and also how to use Mythic well. Pretty cool, man... Pretty cool!
