With the death of David Gemmell and Jennifer Robeson no longer writing Tiger and Del books I've needed new sources of NEW S&S stories.
Best I've found so far is Blackgate magazine, which I can not recommend too much for pulpy goodness, but it's rare to get two issues a year much less their quarterly schedule.
Where do you get your fix.

I go for the old stuff, which I usually find at the local Half Price Books

I haven't read Gemmell--is he really S&S? I must confess that I really haven't read anything post-1975 that felt S&S to me. But maybe that's just my age talking.

I haven't read Gemmell--is he really S&S? I tend to think so. There are larger than life heroes, wicked evil sorceries, demons to be bested. quests- and always a code. the action is top notch and the characters are well thought out.

Eh, my problem with Gemmel was his constant Old man/Young woman pairing fetish. In EVERY BOOK! Well, almost every, but still once was cute. The second time was alright but after that, come on, we get it it's a personal fantasy. Move on please. As for his being S&S, depends on your take. I never thought so, but I can see how it can be. I've always thought his style was too 'epic', with most of his characters (Usually aging warriors) having done big things and having to do one last job to 'save the kingdom'. Most S&S takes tend to be more mercenary in nature or wanderers getting in trouble.
And David Gemmel is dead? When did this happen? That sucks, I did like his Waylander stories.
As for S&S, last year there was a 6 issue comic run called Rokkin, which I thought was very S&S. If you don't mind the medium and can find the back issues, I recommend taking a look through it.
There's also something called 'Claw' or 'Klaw' that I saw from time to time, it looked okay... But that's as far as I got with it.

Claw was a DC Comic from the 1970's barbarian boom. Is this the one you mean? Gosh, I miss the 70's sometimes. Sometimes.

There was a more recent comic about a barbarian who got cursed with a monstrous hand. And part of the issue was the revelation that after he cut it off, not only did his stump grow a new one... The OLD one was still kicking and potentially growing a body to sustain itself.
There were also three cursed werewolves. Who wanted to be changed back. Into full wolves.
At least that's what I remember... It may have been a revival of that 70's one you mentioned.

Ghost king i believe so. but where else? not in the rigante series, or the hawk queen, or morningstar or darkmoon or knights of dark renown- actually he doesnt do it that much at all.

Actually, I read mostly his Dranei series and A LOT of them had the same theme, even IF the 'romance' wasn't as overt. Waylander I, Waylander II, Legend, The King Beyond The Gate (He was pretty old even if he didn't look it) First Chronicles of Druss the Legend... One more I can't remember but the young female lead went with the older guy, while the young man who hired the coot, after being derided as a dreamer by his dream girl (and who ACTUALLY survived this time, makes one wonder where these grizzled warriors come from) gets the older woman... I admit that maybe the other books changed, but the overtones in those books made sigh and shake my head and put him along side Robert Jordan (Who I DISLIKE, not hate, for the record.) I picked up the Conan Anthologies that came out recently so I got my fix with that one as well. And as for Claw? It's good to know that I wasn't delusional. I haven't seen any issues recently. Oh, and there's a new comic based on Frazetta's Death Dealer character, named... You guessed it! Death Dealer. Not sure it qualifies as SS, but it's only got an issue out to date out if the 6 issue run.

Waylander I, Waylander II, Legend, The King Beyond The Gate (He was pretty old even if he didn't look it) First Chronicles of Druss the Legend... in the first chronicles of Druss the legend- it tells the story of how he searches for his wife- he's not an old man. in Legend there is no kind of May december romance between the main characters. I have to respectfully disagree my friend, there may be recurring themes, but thats to be expected when one writes the volume of material that Gemmell did. but to compare him with Jordan...thats just mean. I stand by the assertion that if you want to read a tale of sword (or in this case Axe wielding) adventure, you could do no better than to pick up "Legend".

Both authors are readable in my opinion. They just have their hang ups.
As for the romance... I guess I may be wrong, although I recall another reoccurring theme in his books, I recall that most of the male leads usually have a romance in the past that died. Often physically. Most of the Dranei books had that. I know Druss lost his wife, the Waylander married twice... Trying to remember if it happened again.

I loved Gemmell since I was about 14. A lifelong smoker, he passed away from lung cancer in March of 2006. His first Druss book is my favorite by him and the one that I judge all others by. Waylander is the only one of his works that I considered weak, and that was only because of the rather poor ending.
And yes, Claw is the same character as the one from the 1970's. There were a lot of cool S&S comic heroes from the 70's that would make incredible comics if brought back today. Wulf. Konga. Ironjaw. Stalker. I still pull them out to read them from time to time and they are all still great.
My main inspiration for S&S gaming still comes from the originals. I just picked up the Bran Mak Morn collection and it has so far been a great read!
Oh, and since I am new to the board, I just wanted to say hi.
"Hi."
