Howdy folks
Regarding armor protection: the armor descriptions specify which body parts are covered. Some armor protect chest and gut. Others only protect the chest or the gut. But what about the back? If the rules make a distinction between chest and gut, is there a distinction between upper and lower back? Is it assumed that armor that protects the chest also protects the (upper) back? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are breastplates that only protect the chest area and offer no protection to the backside. When I gm'd, I assumed that armor also protected the backside.
I wanted to throw this out there and get everyone's opinion and how they handled this.
If anyone has optional armor rules they used in their campaign, please feel free to share it.
Thanks, gerald

That's a good question. Just from an ease-of-bookkeeping standpoint I'd say that armor that covers the front of the torso covers the back as well unless its description specifically states otherwise. (Maybe the players can get cheap breastplates that only cover their fronts & just lace across the back, or girdles with fat metal plates across the gut but just the belt in back.)
Yeah, I would agree that upper & lower back are distinct areas.

Thanks for the reply.
The rules don't cover attacks from behind and so I wondered how other people handled that situation. Also, what would you suggest as a specific wound to the upper and lower back?
I'm thinking that a specific wound from brawling would/could stun. But what would be the specific wound to the upper/lower back from a weapon?

I would leave the specific wounds in both locations the same. In the upper torso you're hitting the same organs once you get past the bones; in the lower torso you've got intestines in front & kidneys in the back, might as well call them equally vulnerable for the sake of simplicity.
